Faith. Leadership. Growth.

People think leadership begins the day your title changes. But real leadership begins long before your name ever shows up on the org chart.
If a title is the thing that finally gives you permission to lead, you’re not actually leading you’re just managing borrowed authority.
I learned that as a young professional, when nobody was looking for my voice, nobody was asking for my opinion, and nobody saw me as a leader. But inside, something was stirring. A pull. A restlessness. A sense that I was supposed to shape the room even if I didn’t yet have the seat.
And here’s what experience taught me, long before the corporate world ever validated it:
Influence always shows up before authority does.
Let me break that down the way I lived it.

On America’s birthday, I find myself reflecting on the country I was born into, the hope of that time, and the hope I still carry for the future.
There is no country on earth like these United States of America. With all of our contradictions, all of our scars, all of our struggles, I still believe this is the greatest place to be born, to dream, to build, to serve, and to become.
As I reflect on the 250th year of America’s birth, I cannot help but look at it through the lens of my own.
Orv's Book Is Now Available On Amazon
Born in East Saint Louis to a drug-addicted mother who died when he was eight years old, author Orvin Kimbrough chronicles his early years through foster care, orphanages, physical and sexual abuse, hunger, and poverty. He could have joined a gang. He could have become a teen father. He could have fallen into drugs and the violence of the streets. He could have ended up in prison. He could have been shot dead.
But he rose above it all to become a prosperous leader in the Saint Louis business and nonprofit communities.

The Triple R Method™
Reframe Your Thinking
So many people believe their scars disqualify them. But faith tells a different story. Your scars are proof of survival. They are evidence of God’s grace.
“This doesn’t prove I’m broken; this proves I survived."
Reclaim Personal Agency
Scars can make you feel powerless, like life happened to you and there’s nothing you can do about it. But reclaiming means refusing to let your scars tell the last word.
Rename Your Social Networks
Too often we let scars define us by old labels: abandoned, unworthy, broken. But in Christ, we get a new name. We are chosen. We are redeemed. We are called.
I had to stop calling myself “the orphan who got lucky” and start calling myself “a son of God with purpose.” That renaming gave me confidence to walk in identity, not insecurity.
Your scars are not your shame. They are your story, your strength, and your strategy.
Reframe them. Reclaim them. Rename them.
Do that, and you won’t just carry scars—you’ll rise with them, walking in the very purpose God designed you for.
