Gratitude Focus: The Confidence To Pivot And The People Who Support That Decision

Written by Orvin Kimbrough | June 02, 2026

Reflection/Why I’m Grateful:

Yesterday, I made the decision not to travel to DC and instead joined my National Academy of Medicine meeting remotely. That single pivot gave me the space I needed—not just to engage meaningfully in the commission’s work, but also to prepare more deeply for my board meeting tomorrow. I’m grateful for the courage to change plans at the last minute and for the team that helped make it possible.

This work is among the most rewarding I do. I’m learning so much about the American healthcare system. One insight that stood out was the tension between payers and providers—efficiency vs. compensation. It reminded me of a technologist I once spoke to who said he charges based on experience, not time. That stuck with me. It’s not about hours worked—it’s about value delivered.
