Not too long ago I was in a conversation with a group of young professionals talking about the implications of AI.
It made me think about when I was coming through college.
I remember the first-time professors started talking about email and the internet. At the time it felt interesting… but none of us fully grasped how much it would change the way we communicate, search for information, do business, and live our daily lives. Looking back now, it completely reshaped my generation.
AI feels like that moment again, but bigger.
The young professionals coming into the workforce today will likely experience the single most significant technological shift of their lifetime through AI.
But here’s the part I shared with them that might surprise some people.
The biggest factor in your long-term success probably won’t be your technical expertise.
It will be your emotional intelligence.
Your ability to connect with people.
Your ability to communicate clearly.
Your ability to listen, collaborate, and build trust.
AI will make many technical tasks easier and faster. But the human elements of leadership, judgment, empathy, influence, relationships will only become
more valuable.
So my advice to this generation is simple: Become comfortable and fluent with AI tools, regardless of your profession.
Don’t ignore them. Don’t fear them.
Learn to leverage them.
Because the professionals who combine AI fluency with strong human intelligence will give themselves a real head start over those who
keep their heads in the sand.
And that advantage will compound over time.
“Which scar in your life is God trying to use as a source of strength and authority in your leadership?”
