Gratitude Focus: I’m Grateful For The Often Small Part I Get To Play As People Transition From One Stage Of Life To The Next.

Reflection/Why I’m Grateful:

Recently, I received a note from a leader who shared that she’s in a season of transition. She mentioned that she’d been talking with someone I’ve had the privilege of coaching over the years—at different stages of life—and she wanted me to know how often my name comes up in her conversations.

She wrote:

“I thought I’d reach out directly and share that I have so much respect for you, not only as a leader, but also as a person. I realize we don’t know one another particularly well, but I am constantly learning from you.”

She went on to say that we share a similar backstory—and that she recognizes how much hard work it must have taken, how often I may have been overlooked, and how unfair parts of the journey may have felt.

Then she shared something that truly stopped me:

“Yet you’re not bitter or jaded, even though you could be (and no one would blame you). You lead with kindness, reflection, and intention. You treat everyone with equivalent respect.

These are the leadership qualities I’m searching for in my next chapter. If the right opportunity came along at Midwest BankCentre, I’d be honored to work together.”

I often tell my team there’s nothing about me that’s perfect. My leadership isn’t perfect. I’m just a man. Just a human being trying to be faithful with what I’ve been given.

But I do believe that it’s in authenticity—showing up whole, honest, and grounded—that people are able to anchor their soul to yours as a leader.

I’m grateful she took the time to send that note. Who knows if we’ll ever have the opportunity to work together. But moments like this remind me that as I continue to do what God has placed on my heart, the impact often shows up quietly—through encouragement, reflection, and connection.

And that’s enough.

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” — Galatians 6:9

Whose transition might you be influencing, perhaps without even realizing it?
